We were incredibly busy the first half of 2025 at Wasted Ink Zine Distro and Paper Jam + Print and we have some seriously wonderful updates to share! But first, we want to take a moment to thank YOU for participating in our programming, visiting our new expanded shop, and for loving zines as much as we do!

We also want to give a huge shout out to our incredible team making everything happen at our spaces!  Thank you, WIZD folks: Heather, James, Devin, Hannah, Sav, Marlaina, Mads, Grace, Jaime, Tess, Dawn, Ali, Persephone. We collaborate in community with Amy Silverman’s PAPER @ Wasted Ink Zine Distro and Victoria & Julian of SATURNHEX and Angie of Shut Eye Press at our collaborative print shop Paper Jam + Print! Big thanks to our PHX Zine Fest team Haley, Rinke, Moon, Zoe, Theo, Taylor, and Hub. We also want to thank the NAU students that were part of VisualDESIGNLab for helping us publish our 2024 annual report and redesign our logos! And finally, we want to thank our incredible accountant Moli for running our financials.

We loved having folks visit our brand new expanded location where we have even more zines on our shelves and a huge zine library area where we hosted a ton of programming, too! Conveniently located next to Paper Jam + Print, we activated both spaces and hosted congruent programs which has been so much fun! We completed another virtual zine cohort, and a three-part zine workshop series at a nearby middle school where 28 eighth graders made zines on immigration, illegal deportation, romance, personal struggles, and the relentless progression of time. Our team hosted a 15-hour mini zine marathon at Brick Road Coffee and also made zines with 300 youth and adults at the Phoenix Art Museum’s Family Funday!
We launched our newsletter where we featured 23 zines, 42 WIZD events, and announced 8 opportunities for workshops, calls for zines, and vending. Be sure you sign up for our newsletter here to stay up to date!

We also launched our enhanced internship program and welcomed many new team members to join our efforts! Hear about it from our team:

“The Wasted Ink internship has been an amazing experience so far! As an events intern, I've had the opportunity to participate in so many new events and workshops through WIZD, connecting me to a variety of great organizations, individuals, and skill-building experiences. It's allowed me to contribute my time and energy to a project with energizing, meaningful work, while helping me to grow personally in my artistic interests and professionally in my community event skills.” - Ali, Events Intern

“I've had an excellent experience as a shop intern. Working on a team that understands the need for accessibility and supports disabled team members has been incredible. Having a strong sense of community has made the state of the world easier to endure. I've expanded my understanding of what zines are and can be, and I compiled my first zine as an intern with the help of some other team members (a legal resource for queer couples in AZ) and will be distributing soon!” - Jaime, Retail Intern

“My internship at WIZD prompts me to move through my despair and into creation, connection, and community support. I now read zines weekly and I make art more frequently than I have since I was a child. I feel not only inspired by the zines I see from others, but secure and safe enough to make vulnerable art of my own." - Marlaina, Retail & Library Intern

Here’s more info on what we’ve been up to this year:
WIZD provided over 170 hours of programming for over 1,400 people. Programs include Carving Club with Timothea, Open Studio at Paper Jam + Print, Zine Fiends with K8, and Wasted Ink’s Type-In.

On July 12, we opened applications for the 9th annual Phx Zine Fest, at Rocket Space Gallery on October 25 & 26.

We distributed over 1,300 zines between January through June 2025 through our in-person store, online store, wholesale program, and various pop-up events. (Wasted Ink has distributed over 15,000 zines since opening almost 10 years ago!!) We also went on an Arizona Zine tour and participated in the Northern Arizona Book Festival, the Tucson Zine Fest, and the inaugural Bisbee Zine Fest!

We printed 43 zine projects for community members totaling over 985 printed zine copies for projects like LOOKOUT, Fat Babes Phoenix, and many more!
