Jacob Newman is an artist and illustrator living in Scottsdale, drawing scenes of life across the Valley through realistic illustrations of storefronts. By bringing the illustrations to the businesses, he is able to learn about the history of Phoenix from the people who made it. "I am a cartoonist writing irreverent autobiographical stories about my life and perspective. This is who I am at my core. But I have expanded into realistic scenes of life and illustrations of places that add up to tell the story of Phoenix through my eyes. I truly love this place and hope that the combination of my two mediums can tell the story of both my experience and the experience of those around me.
Oh and I may or may not be engaged in a long term prank called Fumbu. But that is classified information." Themes include: Family, Judaism, Queerness, Othering, The intersection of local business and identity, Phoenix history Find Jacob Newman at the fest on Saturday and follow him here: Website
