ZuZu Cartoons (they/she) is a zinester who publishes out of Tempe, AZ (O'Odham & Piipaash land). Their serious zines include work on securing an ADHD diagnosis, queer love, activist resources, and having mental health conversations with partners. Her much sillier ongoing comic series, Playlists for Possessed Dolls and Depressed Smokers, relies on humor and narrative to tackle heavier themes such as isolation, nihilism, interpersonal relationships, neurodivergence and mental health. "I have a variety of work, which ranges from the aesthetic to the deeply personal. My most recent publication is a small, free resource on navigating tough healthcare conversations with a partner, called “The Care & Keeping of [Your Name].” Another free zine of mine describes my experience getting diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, and includes links to resources and a flowchart for calling a new provider. Other perzines I’ve created tackle subjects such as intrusive thoughts, living with type 1 diabetes, and queer hickeys.
My ongoing comic series, Playlists for Possessed Dolls and Depressed Smokers, relies on humor and narrative to tackle heavier themes such as isolation, nihilism, interpersonal relationships, neurodivergence and mental health… All wrapped inside a story about a stoner who summons a demon into a long Furby. It’s a good time, and exactly as weird as it sounds. I’m very proud of it." Themes include: Resources/How-To, mental health, guides, perzines, comics, paranormal Find ZuZu Cartoons at the fest on Saturday and follow them here: Website
