Hello! My name is Mads and I'm a trans/gender nonconforming comic artist with an interest in nuclear history, fandom, and original characters! Zines give me an outlet to discuss my complicated experience with gender through my characters. Both of my sketchbook zines are full of artwork and ramblings from that year's doodles! My Queer Failure zine discusses 'failure' as an essential part of us, and that 'success' is usually defined by those outside of queer identities. I also regularly update my webcomic ATOMIC GOTHIC, about a queer nuclear clean up organization in 1959 Atomic America, which I plan to publish in a zine format!
My first zine was my Blue Horse Zine, which was around 8 pages and made with coffee dyed paper. I wanted to make at least 22 copies of this zine, so I spent days and days dyeing pages with hot coffee and used grounds. My hands must've absorbed an obscene amount of caffeine! It was honestly a mess, but worth it. When I was finally done, I had a really cool zine with medieval inspired artwork and 'aged' pages (they smelled pretty good!), but I would *probably* not use that process again.
