Displaced Snail Publications has been putting out zines since 2008. My latest catalog of zines includes my favorites, including my newest zine, Gina and Joe Talk About: Queer Horror, in which I came out as queer (hooray!) and my buddy Gina Brandolino and I wrote essays, both personal and academic, about our favorite queer horror movies. Lately, I've also been high on Four Anecdotes about David Bowie from My Own Life, which is about exactly what it sounds like. I also have a neat art zine called Pick Up the Phone, accompanied by an EP of synthpop music I put out. I have lots of other stuff, too! I'm Joe, a queer artist from Philadelphia. I run the zine press Displaced Snail (displacedsnail.com) and the DIY record label This & That Tapes (thisandthattapes.com). My partner Katie and I run a zine library and show space out of our of home in East Falls, Philadelphia called the East Falls Zine Reading Room (efzrr.com), in which we keep a catalogued collection of over 1,500 zines. We've toured nationally with our zines, and you can find my work in galleries and stores, as background pieces in movies, and around the way. Since making my first zine in 2008, I've designed and printed over 260 unique zines, 178 of which were my own work. The others were for hire for or collaborations with poets and writers, organizations like Joyful Noise Recordings and Portland State University, and musicians like Tall Tall Trees, Serengeti, Spencer Moody, Deerhoof, and No Joy.
