PZF '23: Mara Gervais

Mara Gervais is queer, gender-fluid non-binary, BIPOC and from the Central Valley in California. They make zines, stickers, and prints - all their work is self-published. They're obsessed with risograph printing, skateboarding, and eating spaghetti!

Here's a description of my zines: I Made You A Mix CD Because I Have A Crush On You - Buy this zine & CD combo if you want your SO to find it in your center console and get the wrong idea. Featuring 20 of my current, and past favorite songs (an hour and 20 minutes of music) along with a glimpse into my life at the time when I listened to them most. Topics range from teenage hooliganism to crushes, exes, and hook-ups, along with the constant theme of loneliness. Deeply personal and embarrassing, read if you've ever wanted a look into my diary - sorry if I wrote about you (alternatively, sorry if you didn't make the cut)! 4.75" x 4.75", 20pgs, Risograph printed in Fluorescent Pink ink on assorted 24lb paper. Not Trans Queer Brown Enough - An autobio perzine about identity and feeling like an outsider in one's own marginalized communities. 4.25" x 5.5", 20pgs, Risograph printed Fluorescent Pink ink on 24lb green paper. Mushroom Cap Morphology - An illustrated zine that teaches you how to identify mushrooms based on their cap. 5.5" x 4.25", 8pgs, Risograph printed in Fluorescent Pink ink on 24lb cream paper Getting My Fill - An autobio Tijuana Bible (a palm sized pornographic comic) about masturbation and sex. 2.5" x 4", 8pgs, Risograph printed in Fluorescent Pink on 28lb pink paper. No-Comply - An illustrated mini-zine featuring Alex Gradziel doing one of his favorite skateboard tricks; folds out into a poster showing the full sequence of a no-comply on the back! 2.75" x 4.25, 8pgs, Risograph printed in Violet on 24lb purple or teal paper. 10+ Years in Film - A film photography zine featuring photos taken over 10+ years 4" x 7.5", 30pgs, spiral bound, Risograph printed in Violet ink on 24lb green paper. I'm So Tired Of Trying - a zine featuring drawings made during a period of deep depression 5.5" x 4.25", 8pgs, inkjet printed in black on 28lb gray paper (I'd love to have the new version saddle-stitched with thread abd screen printed in black ink, but no guarantee I'll finish that before the fest!) Getting Lost On The Road To Life - a fan zine featuring the character Kakashi Hatake from Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto 5.5" x 8.5", 16pgs, Risograph printed in Burgundy ink on 24lb blue paper (color of ink and paper subject to change, this zine has been out of print for a while, but I will try to finish it before the fest) I'm also working on a zine called I Have Bad Posture, where I talk about gender dysphoria and feelings about my chest. The comic is planned to be Risograph printed on 5.5" x 4.25" 28lb colored paper. I also sell stickers and 5x7 foil prints and 8.5" x 11" Risograph prints. All my work is self-published!
