Each student in ARA 498/591 creates an original zine related to the contents of the class, which focuses on queer theory and queer artists, activists and other cultural producers. The content and design of the zine is entirely up to each student. Students in ASU's ARA 498/591 Queer Art and Culture class produce original zines on subjects related to some aspect of queer culture that has been discussed in the class. Topics covered include Drag, Camp, Activism, Archives, Temporality, Night Life and the Every Day, Abstraction and Conceptual Art. The zines reflect the incredible diversity of identities and experiences of ASU's student body, drawing from personal experience as well as research. With a large number of artists in the class, many of the zines are visually opulent as well as conceptually provocative.
Themes include: polyamory, queer clay, "problematic" race and gender expressions, disability and chronic illness and many others Follow Queer Art and Culture Zine Collective here: Website
