Through Shut Eye Press, I make zines, artists' books, prints, and literary objects using letterpress, Riso, etching, and other techniques. Shut Eye was born and still operates out of greater Phoenix, though projects and pieces have been written, formed, or printed elsewhere. While I'm often the writer and artist for SEP books, I really enjoy collaborating and sharing skills and resources with other creators. Shut Eye Press is equipped with a 1911 Chandler & Price platen press, a Sigwalt 23 platen press, an Ettan MS-3 etching press, a RISO EZ390 stencil printer, a Glowforge laser cutter, a Challenge guillotine paper cutter, and other printing and bookmaking tools. Feel free to reach out with project needs and ideas! I'm a queer, nonbinary book artist, writer, editor, and nonprofit arts organizer. My work as a book and zine artist straddles genres, namely poetry, short fiction and nonfiction, and collage, with a focus on structural books that use their forms to manipulate their texts. I aim to make large-edition, affordable zines that incorporate fine art techniques, which involves a lot of fun math and time management skills that I have not fully harnessed.
I also teach classes in visual storytelling, sample book structures, and creative application processes. I'm passionate about helping writers and artists shape their professional narratives while pursuing the next steps in their creative careers. Themes include: climate change, pleasure activism, the commodification and erasure of self, art, sleep, ambition, and exhaustion Follow Shut Eye Press here:
